Class of 2011
The only way to move forward is to leave the ugly past behind you
My biggest challenge and cause of stress in high school was being forced to accept the fact that I might not be graduating on time, because I was already held one year behind. I also had some family problems that I couldn’t get over. My stress reducing techniques were mostly talking to a close friend, or my mother.
A big amount of stress and depression came to me by slowly realizing what had happened to me when I was younger, back in my home country. I was taken back to a war zone, and got trapped there, while my mother was here in Fairfax. The only way to get rid of my traumatic memories was by opening up to my mother and telling her all about it.
My AP art class was a big stress reliever, and a therapy to me. Till this day I know the violent stuff I drew was wrong, but it was my way of relieving my stress, and I thank the art department for allowing me to do that. Till this day I’m thankful that I graduated from the school that I did, in Fairfax County, Virginia. Where I came from, there was a lack of education and miss treating of students. My public high school was more than I could ever have asked for.
Despite my struggles, I have always told myself there is so much I can accomplish, there is so much I can see and live up to. The only way to move forward is to leave the ugly past behind you and tell yourself that everything will get better. If you keep the ugly all inside you it will take you nowhere.
